Works with Obsidian Markdown vaults

Story Bible Merger is a free, open-source desktop app that consolidates multiple Markdown files into one hierarchically organized "story bible." Built for novelists, worldbuilders, TTRPG game masters, and screenwriters, it solves a common problem: notes scattered across dozens of .md files that need to become a single coherent reference document.

The Problem

Writers accumulate files like characters.md, alice.md, worldbuilding.md, and plot-arc-1.md across tools like Obsidian, Scrivener, and Logseq. Merging by hand is tedious; naïve concatenation produces duplicate headings, broken hierarchy, and no organization. Existing merge tools assume code, not prose.

The Solution

Story Bible Merger treats Markdown headings as semantic categories. Two files that both contain ## Alice collapse into one entry. Sections are parsed, grouped by heading similarity, previewed in an editable tree, and merged into clean Markdown.

Key Features Drag-and-drop input for any number of .md files Top-level-only parsing — subheadings stay nested Configurable similarity threshold for grouping Fuzzy match & merge — similar siblings collapse into one, concatenating content and unioning tags Interactive preview tree — drag to rearrange, rename groups, create sub-groups, edit tags, delete items Tagging with CSV export (group path, heading, tags, sources, level, merge status) Recursive output with correctly shifted heading levels Source attribution on every section Stack

Python 3 + PyQt5, standard library only otherwise. Single-file, cross-platform, deterministic output. Non-destructive preview; manual override always wins; prose-first design.

Audience

Novelists, worldbuilders, TTRPG GMs, screenwriters — anyone writing long-form prose in Markdown.
